Dear Greenwood Families,
Happy Monday! It was so wonderful to see the turnout at Back to School Night last Thursday! I hope that those of you who were able to attend learned a lot about your child’s classroom and day-to-day life here at Greenwood School. Communication between school and home is extremely important to us, so please do not ever hesitate to reach out if you have questions about anything!
PowerSchool Parent Portal - EVEN MORE IMPORTANT
All families should have received information to register for their PowerSchool parent portal accounts. In order to communicate effectively with our community, we need everyone to complete the parent portal registration and to complete all forms in the portal.
Starting this past Monday September 19, 2022, the district began uploading parent information to our School Messenger System from PowerSchool. PLEASE NOTE: If you have not created your parent account by then you will not receive any communication from Greenwood or from the district until you create your account.
If you did not receive your child’s information to create an account, please email the technology department at TechDept@wpsk12.org. Please include your name, your child/children’s names, and your child’s school. IT will get back to you with the information necessary to create your account and receive important school notifications. The WPS IT Department has created PowerSchool resource videos for your convenience. Click here to access the videos.
When you are logged into PowerSchool, please make sure you update the Contact Details on the R3 Student Contacts Update Form. A paper copy of these instructions was either given to you on Back to School Night or sent home with your child on Friday.
Lunchroom Volunteers
Do you have any free time between 12:00-1:15pm on school days? Looking for a way to help out at Greenwood? We are finally bringing back lunchroom volunteer opportunities! If you’d like to come in and help support students while they’re eating lunch, please see the linked Sign-Up Genius to select time slots over the next two weeks. Single days, multiple days, one time slot, the whole lunch block…we welcome any and all helpers!
NOTE: You will need to have a CORI form completed before coming in for any lunch shifts - please contact Ms. Paiva about the process or to check if you have a current one on file.
Wakefield SEPAC
The Wakefield Special Education Parent Advisory Council is a source of information and support for families whose children receive special education services in Wakefield. This group works with the district regarding meeting the needs of these students and educates and promotes awareness of special education services provided to all eligible students in the school system. Parent Advisory Councils are required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) as outlined in the Massachusetts Special Education Law, Chapter 71B. For more information about Wakefield SEPAC and ways to get involved, please see the linked slides.
Arrival & Dismissal Safety
Now that we’ve completed a couple of full weeks of school, we’ve noticed a couple of potential safety concerns during arrival and/or dismissal. We want to make sure that everyone is getting to and from school safely each day, and renewed attention to these items will help with that!
Please, please, PLEASE use crosswalks to cross the street. This goes for adults and children alike. The crossing guards are posted at crosswalks to help, and their job becomes more complicated when people are darting across the street in other locations.
Bicycles and scooters must also use the crosswalk to get across the street.
During arrival, if you are approaching Greenwood via Greenwood Avenue, please stay on the sidewalk until you reach the crosswalk area before heading across the blacktop. Riding bikes or walking through the back parking lot is a safety hazard. Staff members are still arriving/parking at the same time as students and are not expecting pedestrian traffic in the lot.
Students riding bicycles should ride them directly to the bike rack and park them upon arrival. Riding around the blacktop or school is not safe for those walking or waiting. Please be mindful of those around you!
Thank you for your support in this!
