Dear Greenwood Families,
Happy Monday! I know it’s not far from many people’s minds that we are quickly approaching the time where, one year ago, everything changed quite dramatically. If you want to have an odd-feeling moment, go check out something you wrote a year ago and see what your big topics of discussion were at that time. (In case you’re wondering, last year at this time most people working in schools were talking about how Daylight Saving Time, Friday the 13th, and a full moon were all happening in the same week.) Not that I won’t be talking about Daylight Saving Time next week...
Spring Conferences
Virtual elementary spring conferences for teachers and parents/guardians will be held on Wednesday, March 24th and Wednesday, March 31st.
Hybrid AM and PM cohorts will meet at their regularly-scheduled times on 3/24 and 3/31.
Families in the Full Remote cohort will receive an email about scheduling for those dates.
Specialist classes will take place as scheduled on both days for both hybrid and full remote.
The evening conference block is scheduled for 5:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, March 24th.
Teachers will be sending out more information about sign-up slots this week (if they haven’t already). We’re looking forward to it!
WEF Silent Auction
Along with the Family Trivia Night that took place last Friday, the Wakefield Educational Foundation is holding a silent auction fundraiser, with many great items available to bid on. The auction ends on Friday, March 12th and prizes keep being added, so check out the flyer for more details and the link!
“March Madness Tournament of Books”
We did it last year (even though we had to finish it up virtually!), and we’re happy to say that the March Madness book tourney is back at Greenwood! Each week, teachers will share two picture books with their class as we whittle down 16 picture books to one schoolwide favorite at the end of the month. Books were chosen from various curated lists of recommended titles, and all fit within the themes of celebrating individual differences, diversity, and how we can learn from each other. Here is a link to all of the books that are part of the tournament this year.
Health Reminder - Stay Vigilant!
Thank you for supporting us in our efforts to keep everyone safe by practicing and promoting safety precautions, which include hand hygiene, mask-wearing, social distancing, and avoiding group gatherings and travel to high-risk states where the rates of transmission are high (here is a link to the MA Travel Guidelines, in case a need to travel out of state arises). We are also asking for you to keep children home if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
Fever of 100.0 or higher, and/or chills
Cough (not due to other known cause such as chronic cough, asthma, allergies)
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Headache when in combination with other symptoms
Muscle aches or body aches
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
Fatigue when in combination with other symptoms
Nasal congestion or runny nose when in combination with other symptoms and not due to other known causes such as allergies
Unusual rash when in combination with other symptoms
Our school nurse, Mrs. Doherty, is always happy to answer any questions you may have or provide clarification.
