Dear Greenwood Families,
Happy Monday! I had a weird Daylight Saving Time moment on Sunday morning, when our cat Moxie, who normally gets fed at 6:00am, came wandering in meowing at what *would* have been 5:00am if not for the start of DST. I don’t know how she knew...but she knew! (No way that will hold true when the clocks shift back though - she is all about working angles.)
Spring Conferences - Cancelled
What a difference a week makes...in light of the recent developments and projected full return to in-person school on April 5th, we are cancelling our previously-announced conference time slots on March 24th and March 31st. While teachers will still meet with student cohorts as scheduled on those two days, everyone will be working hard the rest of the time to prepare for the increase in student learning time. As always, if you have concerns or questions about your child’s progress, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher.
Family Survey - Choice of Learning Model
If you have not yet completed the district’s survey about which learning model your child will be in for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year, please take a moment to do so before the end of the day on Wednesday, March 17th. I do realize that there are families who are waiting for additional information about what changes might be made to the full remote model, as well as families who are seeking schedule information for the full in-person model in order to make their final decision. The district is looking to get more information out to families early this week, however, you can also reach out directly to me. If I can help answer anything, I will!
WPS Parent University
An email went out to the WPS Community over the weekend to announce the opening of registration for Wakefield’s Parent University courses and offerings. If you just took a quick glance at it before moving on to other inbox items, I’d suggest going back and taking another look! The whole event kicks off with keynote speaker Dr. Marc Brackett’s talk about emotions and raising emotionally intelligent children, with courses starting on March 18th. There is something for families with students at every grade level, so check out the course offerings here!
Health Reminder - Stay Vigilant!
Thank you for supporting us in our efforts to keep everyone safe by practicing and promoting safety precautions, which include hand hygiene, mask-wearing, social distancing, and avoiding group gatherings and travel to high-risk states where the rates of transmission are high (here is a link to the MA Travel Guidelines, in case a need to travel out of state arises). We are also asking for you to keep children home if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
Fever of 100.0 or higher, and/or chills
Cough (not due to other known cause such as chronic cough, asthma, allergies)
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Headache when in combination with other symptoms
Muscle aches or body aches
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
Fatigue when in combination with other symptoms
Nasal congestion or runny nose when in combination with other symptoms and not due to other known causes such as allergies
Unusual rash when in combination with other symptoms
Our school nurse, Mrs. Doherty, is always happy to answer any questions you may have or provide clarification.
