From the Principal: 3/1/21

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday!  It was nice to get a little taste of “fake spring” last week, even though we got back to the “winter isn’t over yet” reality of the light snow on Saturday.  Despite that, it’s clear that the trend toward warmer temperatures and expanded sunlight is upon us!  This past week also featured a lot of talk about Massachusetts schools, in particular, elementary schools.  Please know that the WPS Administrative Team is working to process this information and identify Wakefield’s next steps, while keeping a focus on maintaining the safety procedures and mitigation strategies that have allowed us to successfully operate our in-person model since September.  We all want kids back to school, and we also need to make sure we’re doing it safely and thoughtfully.

WEF Virtual Family Trivia Night - Greenwood Representation Needed!

At the end of last week, I was informed that there was not yet any Greenwood family representation for the WEF Family Trivia Night.  So I’m putting out one last call!  Instead of the Adult Spelling Bee, the Wakefield Educational Foundation is changing things up this year and holding a Virtual Family Trivia Night on Friday, March 5th!  WEF has done so much to support our schools and depends on these types of events to raise money to continue that work.  Check out the flyer for more details.

Assembly for Grades K-2: Young Audiences “Tales of African Traditions”

On Wednesday, March 3rd from 10:45-11:30am there will be a virtual assembly for all K-2 Greenwood students (both hybrid and remote) featuring storyteller Valerie Tutson.  This was organized by our Greenwood PTO Cultural Arts Committee - more information about the program can be found at their website.  The Zoom link for the program is being posted by classroom teachers in their Google Classrooms for your children to access.  And FYI...there will be a Young Audiences program coming up for grades 3 & 4 soon—more info to come!

Health Reminder

Thank you for supporting us in our efforts to keep everyone safe by practicing and promoting safety precautions, which include hand hygiene, mask-wearing, social distancing, and avoiding group gatherings and travel to high-risk states where the rates of transmission are high (here is a link to the MA Travel Guidelines, in case a need to travel out of state arises). We are also asking for you to keep children home if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.0 or higher, and/or chills

  •  Cough (not due to other known cause such as chronic cough, asthma, allergies)

  •  Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Sore throat

  • Headache when in combination with other symptoms

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
