Dear Greenwood Families,
And we’re off! Even though we’ve only been able to spend two days with your children so far, there has been a LOT going on all over Greenwood School. It is so important for us to take the time at the start of each new year to not only teach and practice routines, but to start getting to know who is in our classrooms and build our communities. One of *my* big adjustments with our returning students is “moving” your children up to the next grade level in my head! It happens fast though - everything starts humming along like clockwork before you know it.
Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
With the start of a new year, we also have a few reminders for arrival and dismissal. Please make sure that anyone who cares for your children is made aware of this information.
Please do not drive into and/or park in the staff parking lot during the morning and afternoon pick up. We have many children walking to and from the playground during this time and ask parents to park on the street behind or in front of the school if you are going to walk and wait with your child.
If you need to cross the street, please walk students to the crossing guards located at both the front and back of the school. Walking in between cars to cross the street is very dangerous, and our crossing guards are here specifically to help keep everyone safe.
Finally, for the adults who are waiting on the playground while students enter or leave the building each day: all adults who are dropping off or picking up should stand behind the first basketball hoop. This makes the area where students are standing less crowded, allowing staff members on duty to see all students and more easily identify which students are still waiting for adults at the end of the day.
Thank you for your attention and help with these safety procedures - we greatly appreciate it!
Back-to School Night
Once again, please note that Greenwood’s Back-to-School Night will be held on Tuesday, September 17th. This is an opportunity for adults to come and meet the classroom teachers and specialists and to learn about classroom expectations and grade level curriculum. Here is the schedule for the evening:
6:15-6:30 – PTO & Community information tables; voting for School Council representative
6:30-6:45 – Welcome remarks/staff introductions (gym)
6:50-7:20 – Grade 3 & 4 parents report to classrooms
6:45-7:30 – PTO & Community information tables; Voting; Specialists available to parents as needed
7:25-8:00 – Grade K-2 parents report to classrooms
Welcome Message from Wakefield School Resource Officers
Officers Kelley Tobyne, Jason Skillings, and Michael Pietrantonio have written a welcome message to the Wakefield School Community—please take a moment to read their letter. They are a wonderful resource for us throughout the school year!
Communication
Communication is very important to us, so please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher should you have any questions or concerns throughout the year. All staff email addresses are listed on the “Staff Directory” section of the Greenwood School website. Please know it can be challenging for staff members to access email during the school day, so please call the office with any time-sensitive messages.
Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning — let’s have a great week!
