Dear Greenwood Families,
Happy Monday! We had a fun group of Gator families representing Greenwood on Saturday at the Annual Holiday Stroll and Hat Parade. As one student commented, “We’re walking in the middle of the street! All those people are looking at us!” Even though it was a bit chilly (perfectly appropriate for December!), the bright sunshine made a big difference while we waited for the festivities to begin. Consider joining us next time around!
Winter Temperatures, Snow, and Outdoor Recess
Our goal here at Greenwood is to get the kids outside for recess as much as possible even when the temperatures drop. Kids will be outdoors at long as the “feels like” temperature is above 20 degrees Fahrenheit. When the playground wood-chip area is snow-covered, students are only allowed on the snow if they are wearing boots. All this is to say, please make sure students come to school with the appropriate outerwear for enjoying outside time.
And if any of your winter gear has already gone missing...check the lost-and-found!
School Hours on Delayed Start Days
Everyone was caught a little off-guard by the 90-minute delay last Monday, so here is a Greenwood reference chart for any potential future delays:
WEF Grants for Greenwood
Our community submitted a number of grant proposals to the Wakefield Educational Foundation this year, and I’m pleased to report that we received complete or partial funding for a few different projects/programs: The Language of Song with Alastair Moock, a sand tray to support social-emotional learning work, a Greenwood Robotics Program, and a Learning About Differences & Disabilities program with David Harrell. We have a lot to look forward to over the rest of the year—thank you to all of our grant writers!
Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning —let’s have a great week!
