From the Principal: 11/25/19

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday!  It’s a short week, but for many families it will get VERY busy after the end of the school day on Wednesday.  Whether you’re hosting, cooking, traveling, shopping, or simply enjoying some time off, I hope your family has a lovely break.  We will look forward to seeing everyone back here in December!

Early Release—Wednesday, 11/27

2020 MCAS Dates—Grades 3 & 4

While springtime seems a little far away at the moment, it is important for everyone to have the dates for MCAS testing in grades 3 and 4 well in advance.  We understand that some absences are unavoidable, but we do ask that everyone be mindful of the testing dates when making appointments, as there is limited time for makeup testing.  Thank you for your attention to this!

Greenwood School Council Meeting Summary

The Greenwood School Council met last Thursday for our second meeting of the school year.  This year, the group will focus on two main areas—creating and implementing a school culture/climate survey, and curating and sharing resources about social-emotional learning for families.  We anticipate implementing the survey in late winter/early spring and look forward to identifying potential areas of growth based on the results. Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd at 7:45am.  Please feel free to reach out to any Council member (Tiffany Back, Jeanine Campbell, Heather McCarthy, Liz Parsons) with questions or ideas.

School for Life—Toys for Tots Donations

The School to Life Program at WHS is, once again, collecting Toys for Tots donations.  It is a wonderful organization that has continued to collect millions of toys for those in need each year. To learn more about this wonderful organization, please visit https://www.toysfortots.org/.  They have a goal of donating 200 toys from the WPS School District and are hoping that the school department and Wakefield families will help Toys for Tots reach their goal.  Please leave all unwrapped toy donations in the large donation boxes in each school lobby. The program will collect toys until Tuesday, December 11th and then drop off all donations at a local drop-off site.  The local newspapers have an article mentioning all of the district schools and their generosity! Thank you all for your support in helping Toys for Tots!

Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning—let’s have a great week!
