Dear Greenwood Families,
Happy Monday! It’s no secret that we have many children who are more than ready for Halloween to be here. Some of them have been telling us about their costume plans since October 1st! It was great to see so many of you at the Greenwood PTO Halloween Party on Friday night. Many, many thanks to all the volunteers who worked behind the scenes and during the event to make sure the kids had a fantastic time. Greenwood events are the best!
iParent Reminder
We aren’t at report card time yet, but this is an early reminder to make sure families have signed up for an iParent account. This will allow you to access your child’s report cards once published. If you already have an account but are not able to see all of your children, it means that you need to request that they be added to the existing account. See the following links for instructions:
School Council Recap
On Thursday, October 24th, the Greenwood School Council met for the first meeting of the 2019-2020 school year. The draft School Improvement Plan for Greenwood School was reviewed for feedback and comments. This plan will next be shared with the Wakefield School Committee in late November. The Council also brainstormed ideas about a focus area for this year (last year was homework) and talked about the possibility of a school climate survey, ways to connect social-emotional learning at school to home, or enhancing communication. We will narrow down our topic at our next meeting, which will be on Thursday, November 21st at 7:45am. Please feel free to reach out to any Council member (Tiffany Back, Jeanine Campbell, Heather McCarthy, Liz Parsons) with questions or ideas.
ALICE Drill Tuesday
Just a reminder of our ALICE drill practice on Tuesday, October 29th at 9:00am to practice how to stay safe if someone enters Greenwood School who should not be here. For elementary students, the focus is on staying safe and following teacher directions as to whether to stay inside the classroom or evacuate the building. If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to me or your child’s teacher.
Halloween Parade on Thursday
Our K-2 students will display their costumes and parade around the outside of Greenwood School on Thursday, October 31st. The parade starts promptly at 2:30pm and can be viewed from either side of the building. We look forward to seeing many of you there!
All-School Meeting—4th Grade Performing
On Monday, November 4th, we will have our next All-School Meeting to talk about Veterans Day before the holiday on the 11th. Members of the 4th Grade Leadership Team will emcee the meeting, and all 4th graders will be part of the performance of patriotic songs. We will start at 8:50am and be done by 9:25am.
Pumpkin Recycling
Have you ever wondered what to do with your jack o’ lanterns once Halloween is over and done? We have a solution! On Tuesday, November 5th, the Environmental Sustainability Committee of Wakefield is hosting events at various schools to try and compost as many post-Halloween pumpkins as possible. That morning before school, there will be a tarp (exact location TBD) where you can put your pumpkin. Black Earth Compost (who Greenwood also works with for lunch composting) will come by to pick up the pumpkins and turn them into nutrient-rich compost. Members of the 4th Grade Leadership Team will help out with the process. Don’t worry—there will be several reminders leading up to that day!
Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning—let’s have a great week!
