From the Principal: Oct 1

Dear Greenwood Families,

Even though the weather last Tuesday night left a lot to be desired, it was wonderful to see so many of you join us for Back to School Night! As I said in my opening, the school/home connection is an extremely important part in making your child’s learning experience a successful one. When children see that many of the adults in their lives are invested in and committed to growing a love of learning, it sets a foundation for everything that lies ahead of them. We are all better when we work together!

International Walk to School Day

Wednesday, October 3rd is International Walk to School Day, so if you are able, leave your car at home and walk to school with your child that day! We will have a poster for children to sign and stickers to highlight the event on the playground. Mr. Hennessey, Mrs. Doherty and I will be on hand to hand out the prizes to students at 8:30 am.

Inclement Weather Arrival

Speaking of walking to school, we would just like to remind everyone that on bad-weather days, students will enter the building when the bell rings at 8:30am and line up in the gym instead of outside. Please make sure your children are prepared for any weather situation they may experience while they wait outside for the bell to ring at 8:30am - umbrellas, raincoats, warmer clothing, etc.

WPS Administration Meet-and-Greet

All families should have received an e-mail last week announcing a Meet-and-Greet for parents of elementary students on October 3, 2018 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. It will be held at the Woodville School library. This is an opportunity for Doug Lyons and Kara Mauro, our superintendent and assistant superintendent, to hear the perspective and opinions of parents of elementary students from across the district. Please come have a cup of coffee and share your thoughts. If you are unable to make the meeting but would like to connect, please don't hesitate to send a note to doug.lyons@wpsk12. org.

Dogs on School Property

This is just a reminder for everyone that while many of us love our furry friends, there is a Wakefield School Committee policy stating that animals are not allowed on school property. This policy helps ensure the safety and comfort of all of our students. Thank you for your attention to this!

No School - Friday, October 5th & Monday, October 8th

Enjoy your extra-long weekend! All WPS staff will be busy with a full day of professional development on Friday, 10/5 before the “regular” long weekend.

Help for Mrs. Holland!

Do you have 20-30 minutes available after drop-off in the morning? Before pick-up in the afternoon? Mrs. Holland, our reading specialist, is STILL looking for volunteers to help her organize the black-and-white books that went home with Kindergarteners over the summer. The sooner they get sorted, the sooner she can put them back into her teaching bag of tricks! If you can help out, please send Ms. Holland an e-mail at kathleen.holland@wpsk12.org and let her know. We all thank you in advance for your time.

Lost and Found

Wondering where your child’s sweatshirt has gone? The lost-and-found bin outside the library is slowly collecting items as we find them on the playground or in the hallways. Check it out!

Thank you for everything you do to support your children’s learning both inside and outside of school!

Let’s have a great week!
