Calling Parent Nominees for Greenwood's School Council

The School Council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of a principal, parents, teachers, and community members.  A council is required under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.

What is the reason the Education Reform Act calls for establishing school councils?
The law outlines four major areas of responsibility for councils. School councils are to assist principals in:

  1. Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
  2. Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
  3. Reviewing the annual school building budget
  4. Formulating a school improvement plan

Meetings take place one evening a month in the school's library.

If you are interested in serving on the School Council, please email ptoboard@greenwoodpto.org by Friday, May 4. Note that the PTO does not have influence over the election process, but acts as a conduit for collecting nominees for our principal.
