From the Principal: 5/23/22

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone found some fun things to do this weekend that involved staying cool (in every sense of the word).  For my part, I decided to give the 5-mile race I was supposed to do on Sunday a pass and spend some quality time in an air-conditioned spot instead.  80+ degrees at the 10am start time?  No regrets here!

Greenwood Science Fair

All I have to say is WOW!!!  The return of the Greenwood Science Fair was a big hit among both families that participated and those who came to support their classmates and friends.  If you didn’t catch the photos on Greenwood social media, definitely check them out!  We also managed to thread the needle between the misting rain that wasn’t on any radar systems and the bright sunshine that quickly drove temperatures up toward pool or beach weather.  Everyone had fun learning about a wide variety of topics, and I even heard some thinking toward next year….great job, Gator Scientists!

Reminder - 3rd & 4th Grade MCAS

Our 3rd and 4th graders will be busy taking two more sessions of MCAS to wrap up our required state testing for this year.  Math MCAS testing will take place on Monday, May 23rd and Tuesday, May 24th.  Any necessary makeups will be done on or before Friday, May 27th.

Health Reminder - Updated 5/22/22

We are still seeing an uptick in COVID cases throughout the district, and while most people seem to be experiencing mild symptoms, it is so important for everyone to maintain vigilance in order to keep school operating as smoothly as possible.  While masking remains optional, we have noticed an increase in families choosing to do so during the school day.  Please know that masking is always encouraged and supported as a mitigation strategy.  As always, you should keep children home if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.0 or higher, chills, or shaking chills

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Muscle aches or body aches

  • Cough (not due to other known cause such as chronic cough, asthma, allergies)

  • Sore throat, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Headache, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies) when in combination with other symptoms

If a positive case of COVID is identified in your child’s classroom, you will receive a letter via School Messenger to let you know.  Our school nurse, Mrs. Doherty is always happy to answer any questions you may have or provide clarification.
