Dear Greenwood Families,
Happy Monday! We have a busy two weeks ahead of us before our next school break - time is flying! We’ll see what the groundhog has to say about the remainder of the winter, although I feel like the safest course of action is simply to “expect the unexpected” when it comes to weather predictions in general. Ms. Paiva is always hoping for a healthy snowstorm at some point during the winter though, so we’ll see if she gets her wish!
Staffing Update
Speech & Language - Meredith Palumbo will be returning to us in her role as Speech & Language Pathologist on Monday, February 3rd! Many thanks to Christine Riordan for working with students and collaborating with teachers and families while Meredith was out.
Report Cards
Report cards will be emailed out to families on the afternoon of Friday, February 7th. In order to open the document, you will need your child’s student ID number. A School Messenger email with more information about the report card indicators and a reminder of your child’s ID number will be sent home on Friday morning.
MidYear DIBELS and i-Ready Reports
On Friday, February 7th, the midyear DIBELS and i-Ready family reports will be available to families. As a reminder, all students take these assessments three times per year. This data, along with information gathered by classroom teachers on a daily basis, is used to plan and target instruction that focuses on student areas of need.
While we will be sending home hard copies of the DIBELS reports, i-Ready is available digitally. We will send out a School Messenger email later this week with information about how to access your child’s i-Ready math (K-4) and reading (3-4) reports through your chid’s Clever account.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!
100th Day of School
Unless something unexpected happens between now and then, the 100th day of school will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 11th. (This date has been Kindergarten- and 1st Grade-approved!) Nice to have a little space between that and Valentine’s Day - it gets a little hectic around here when those dates line up! Classroom teachers will be (or have been) in touch if there’s anything they need family support for regarding that day.
From the Wakefield HRC and Wakefield Youth Council - MLK Community Service Project
Please see the linked flyer for information about the 2025 Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Project “Give the Warmth of Winter Care.” Donations will be accepted at designated sites through Friday, February 7th, and volunteers are needed to sort, package, and deliver donations on Saturday, February 8th starting at 9:30am.
WEF Annual Adult Spelling Bee - Friday, March 14th
It's time again to brush up on your spelling and trivia, plus create clever costumes to compete for extra points! WEF is hosting its annual Adult Spelling Bee on Friday Mar 14th. See linked flyer for more details. And sign up early - tables max out at 14 at the West Side Social Club.
Lunchroom Volunteers
Keep the volunteers coming! Kids love to see everyone at lunchtime!
Do you have any free time between 12:00-1:10pm on school days? Looking for a way to help out at Greenwood? We are finally bringing back lunchroom volunteer opportunities! If you’d like to come in and help support students while they’re eating lunch, please see the linked Sign-Up Genius to select time slots all the way up until February break!. Single days, multiple days, one time slot, the whole lunch block…we welcome any and all helpers!
Lunchroom volunteers will help students with those tricky thermoses, hand out napkins and utensils, support students while they sort items into composting/food rescue/trash, and help clean tables at the end of each lunch. Oh, and the most important thing - bring smiles and laughter!
NOTE: You will need to have a CORI form completed before coming in for any lunch shifts - please contact Ms. Paiva about the process or to check if you have a current one on file
Greenwood School Social Media
We are on Facebook and Instagram, and one of my personal goals this year is to show off the fun we’re having throughout Greenwood! Check us out - @wpsgreenwood on both Instagram and Facebook!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.
Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning! Let’s have a great week!
