Dear Greenwood Families,
Usually I prepare my letter to families sometime during the day on Friday, but there was so much going on this weekend that deserved mention! International Night was quite the event - luckily I was advised not to eat dinner beforehand, because the food provided by different countries and cultures was plentiful and amazing. Many Greenwood Gators were in attendance Friday night doing their carb-loading for the Gator Gallop on Saturday morning, and it sure paid off! We couldn’t have asked for better weather on Saturday (many, MANY folks told me what it’s been like in the past), and it was a fun morning for all. Did you watch the kids try to decide which of the many Greenwood staff members to get a medal from after crossing the finish line? That’s a good problem to have! Many kudos to the Gator Gallop planning committee and all the volunteers that made the event possible. There’s no community like the Greenwood community!
Fenway Spirit Day - Tuesday
The World Series Champion Boston Red Sox are heading home to Fenway! The home opener versus the Toronto Blue Jays is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9th, so let’s show our Greenwood team spirit that day Dig out those baseball jerseys, t-shirts, and hats to support the team!
Wakefield Visual & Performing Arts Day - Important!
It will be VERY important to be on time to school this Friday, 4/12! As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, buses will be picking up Greenwood students at 8:50am for the trip to Galvin for this year’s VPAD extravaganza. We will be returning to Greenwood around 10:30 am.
Greenwood Instagram Account
Evidently it’s existed all year long, but we’re now starting to get some activity going! Check out <wpsgreenwood> on Instagram to see snippets of Gator life.
Safety Message from Wakefield School resource Officers
You may have seen the news story last month about the students in Arlington who picked up a discarded needle during their after-school program. As a proactive measure here in Wakefield, Officers Kelley Tobyne and Jay Skillings will be visiting all elementary schools to speak with students about safe behavior if they find something outside. Officers Kelley & Jay will be at Greenwood lunches on Wednesday, April 10th. Please take a look at their safety message about the purpose of the visits, and let me know if you have any questions.
Reminder - Early Release Day Switch
We’ve been discovering that many folks have changed only *some* of their calendars...so please take a moment and update the rest of them to reflect the early release day on Tuesday, April 23rd. Voting will be taking place at the Galvin, so students will have a half-day of school on Tuesday. Wednesday, April 24th will be a full day of school.
“Mr. Larry’s Shed”
You may or may not have seen it outside near the Kindergarten classrooms, but Greenwood has a new shed on the premises! Many of you know that there has been a lot of interest in finding a safe and secure location for Mr. Larry to store the snowblower and other outdoor equipment, and that day has arrived. While the current location may yet change, the fact that we have Amy Blain, one of our 1st grade parents, to thank for her generous donation of the shed does not. Many thanks to Amy and our new WPS Director of Facilities Bob Schiaroli for working out the details to get the shed delivered!
MCAS
The dates were sent out a long time ago, now MCAS is almost upon us! 3rd and 4th graders will be testing here at Greenwood on the following dates:
ELA - Thursday, 4/25 & Friday, 4/26
Math - Tuesday, 5/21 & Wednesday, 5/22
Students who are absent or who arrive after testing has started on MCAS days will test during a makeup session.
Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning!
