From the Principal: 3/4/2019

Dear Greenwood Families,

You’ve probably recognized by now that I like to try and find interesting ways to open my newsletter article each week, and the month of March always provides many opportunities for this! I can think about the weather and the old saying about how March comes “in like a lion, out like a lamb.” Or I could look ahead to the Ides of March and Evacuation Day/St. Patrick’s Day. (I can’t promise I won’t revisit those in a couple of weeks.) However, sending this newsletter out on this particular date leaves me with one clear winner: I love this date because it is not only a date, but a command. As we head into a new week, let’s all “march forth” and get excited for all of the wonderful events and activities that stretch ahead of us throughout March!

Early Release Day

Just a reminder that Wednesday, 3/6 is an early release day for students. Lunch will be served at school before we dismiss at 11:55am.

All-School Meeting

The All-School Meeting hosted by 1st grade is tomorrow, Tuesday, March 5th at 9:00am. We’re looking forward to it!

Social Media and Children

If you’ve watched or read any news over the past few days (or spent even a moment on Facebook), you’ve undoubtedly seen talk about something online called “The Momo Challenge.” Hopefully you’ve also seen the follow-up articles about how this is a viral hoax and explaining the inaccuracies about the information being spread around. Our Wakefield School Resource Officers have written a letter about the impact of social media and the importance of monitoring usage by children. We want our students to be well-informed, responsible users of technology, and a large part of that is teaching them about how to use it appropriately both in school and at home. We can’t do it without your help!

Learn Anywhere

You all know that I try not to jinx anything, but the weather forecast over the weekend leads me to believe that this March might be starting out a lot like last March did. Which means we might find ourselves with a Learn Anywhere day at some point! Teachers are preparing to update assignments and will be in touch with more information as needed.

Homework Survey

The Greenwood School Council is researching homework practices as part of their work to help improve teaching and learning. We would like to hear from families about their experiences with homework and will be sending out a survey to gather information today or tomorrow. Teachers will also fill out a survey so that we can identify communication trends and areas for improvement. We appreciate the few minutes it will take to share your feedback!

Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning!
