The following letter was emailed to Greenwood families on August 1, 2018:
Dear Greenwood Families,
First of all, don't panic - there is still a lot of time left for summertime fun! Despite the back-to-school commercials that have started to pop up on the television, most of us have just really started to settle into the lazy rhythms and routines of summer. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t take advantage of this time to introduce myself to you all and begin learning about the Greenwood School, the Wakefield Public Schools, and Wakefield as a community!
Before beginning my role as principal here at Greenwood on July 1st, I spent 19 years working in public education in Massachusetts. I began my career in Wayland as a Title I reading aide before taking on my own classroom as a 5th grade teacher in Shrewsbury. After teaching 5th grade and 2nd grade for a number of years, I became a 4th grade teacher in Newton. I spent 11 years in Newton, spending the past five years as an assistant principal/teacher at the elementary level. I am so excited to be joining the Greenwood community as principal!
One of my primary goals is to meet and talk with as many people who are part of the Greenwood community as possible. I have already met with many staff members who have taken time out of their summer plans to come in and talk about what makes Greenwood a great place to be. That says a lot in itself! I am also meeting with the PTO Board this week to talk about their very important role in strengthening the connections between school and home. But I still have more that I want to know! I would like to invite all parents/guardians to meet with me during the month of August to share your answers to three questions:
- Tell me about you and your children, including your children’s grade levels.
- What are the strengths of the Greenwood School? What shouldn’t be changed?
- What do you believe might be necessary to change in order to provide students with the best possible education here at Greenwood?
I have blocked off 9:00-11:00am on Monday mornings through the month of August for anyone who would like to come in and chat. Please make an appointment by sending me an e-mail at tiffany.back@wpsk12.org with a time that works for you. If you are unable to come and meet in person, I also welcome e-mail responses to the questions I listed above.
I feel lucky to get to do the work that I do with students, teachers, and parents every single day, and I am very much looking forward to getting to know you and your children. There is nothing better than helping children learn and grow, and we are most successful when we work together as a community to make it happen.
Towards the end of August, a welcome back letter will be sent out with back to school information. Until then, enjoy the rest of your summer!
Many thanks,
Tiffany
