Dear Greenwood Families,
Happy Monday! Today is Day 57 of school, which means that we’re just under a third of the way through the school year. I’m pretty sure our Kindergarten and 1st grade classes already knew exactly what day we are on, but I’m definitely on the “can’t quite believe it” side of things. How did we already get past Thanksgiving? That’s just a sign of how busy and productive things are around here--we don’t even notice the time flying by. The three weeks leading up to December break will be jam-packed for sure. While this is a busy time of year in general, I hope that you are able to make your weekend as busy or not busy as you’d like it to be!
Winter Weather & Outdoor Recess
The unusual number of rainy days in November meant a lot of indoor recess! However, our goal is to get the kids outside for recess as much as possible even when the temperatures drop. Kids will be outdoors at long as the “feels like” temperature is above 20 degrees Fahrenheit, so please make sure students are dressed accordingly. And if any of your winter gear has already gone missing...check the lost-and-found!
WEF Grants for Greenwood
Our community submitted a number of grant proposals to the Wakefield Educational Foundation this year, and I’m pleased to report that we received funding for four different projects/programs: Mindfulness in the Classroom, Discovery Museum Traveling Science Programs, an Outdoor Classroom in the Greenwood Garden, and a Learning About Differences & Disabilities program about Helen Keller. We have a lot to look forward to over the rest of the year - thank you to all of our grant writers!
Learn Anywhere Survey Feedback
Thank you to everyone who completed the Learn Anywhere survey that was sent out last Tuesday! (It’s not too late to take it - I understand how emails can slide quickly down to the depths of your inbox.) The Learn Anywhere Committee appreciates all your feedback and will use it to make program improvements as we move through the school year. Some commonly-suggested areas for improvement include clearer expectations for specialist classes, more explicit communication around due dates, and information about what kind of feedback students will receive on completed assignments.
2019 MCAS Dates - Mark Those Calendars!
While springtime seems a little far away at the moment, it is important for everyone to have the dates for MCAS testing in grades 3 and 4 well in advance. We understand that some absences are unavoidable, but we do ask that everyone be mindful of the testing dates when making appointments, as there is limited time for makeup testing. Thank you for your attention to this!
