Dear Greenwood Families,
I think my favorite part of last week was the start of teacher conferences! It is such a great feeling to see parents and guardians steadily streaming into the school building throughout the afternoon and evening, all for the purpose of connecting with teachers face-to-face to discuss students and their learning. We all love to talk about kids, and we know how important is is for families and teachers to work together for students to learn and grow throughout the year. We have one more “official” conference block this Wednesday afternoon, but please feel free to reach out anytime if you have questions or concerns about your child. We are all better when we work together!
All-School Assembly Recap
Thanks to Mrs. Brighenti, Mrs. Campbell, and Ms. Koplik, our November all-school assembly featured a lot to be thankful for! Our 4th graders performed three patriotic songs: “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” and “Yankee Doodle” for all those in attendance. I’m pretty sure there were some others singing along! We watched a short video explaining the history and meaning of Veterans Day, and then the 4th graders shared information about their “30 Days of Thankfulness” project and what they are thankful for in their lives. It was wonderful to have our school community gathered together once again!
Learn Anywhere Elementary “Dry Run”
Just something to put on your radar - an email will be sent out to all elementary schools (it had not yet as of Friday morning) from the district describing the upcoming dry run for our Learn Anywhere program that started last year for snow day learning. This test will be in the form of a homework assignment on Tuesday, November 20. The goal of this dry run is to determine if students/families are able to access teacher assignments effectively. A survey will be sent out following the dry run to solicit feedback about the technical aspects of the program.
Greenwood Family Folk Dance Night!
Greenwood School will be hosting Family Folk Dance Night on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 6:00-7:00pm in the school gym. All community members are welcome! Bring the whole family for a fun evening of live music and folk dancing led by music teachers Mrs. Brighenti, Ms. Schwartz, and Mr. Zini. Join us in learning dances from around the world appropriate for all ages and abilities.
Any family member, school faculty member, or friend who feels comfortable playing an instrument is welcome to participate in the live music. Use this sign up form to join.
(Note to all: I am bringing my flute!)
Admission is FREE! A snack of popcorn and apple cider will be provided at the conclusion of the evening. All children must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. Hope to see you there.
Greenwood School Council
The first meeting of the Greenwood School Council will be on Thursday, November 15 at 6pm in the Greenwood conference room. The School Council is an advisory board to the principal made up of parents and teachers. One of the primary responsibilities for this group is to review the School Improvement plan each year. Meetings are open to the public. If you’d like more information, please contact me.
Thank you for everything you do to support your children’s learning!
