From the Principal

“The way we speak to our children becomes their inner voice.”

I hope the snow is behind us now and we can begin to enjoy some nice spring weather! School will be closed for spring vacation the week of April 17th and reopen on Monday April 24th. We have a very busy week ahead.

Please join us Monday evening April 10th at the PTO meeting. Michele Lebrecque our literacy coach will share with parents our new writing curriculum and discuss her role at the Greenwood School as a literacy coach. (Previously scheduled from the March PTO meeting.) I hope you will join us for what I’m sure will be an informative evening.

One of our favorite weeks is upon us at the Greenwood School! Authorfest is here!! Throughout the week our students (K-4) will learn from published authors! These visits are very special for our young readers and writers. Students learn about an author’s craft, illustrating stories, revising and editing books through demonstration and discussions. Being face to face with published authors truly inspire our young writers! Thank you to the PTO who financially makes this week possible and Erika Makseyn and the entire Authorfest Committee for coordinating this wonderful literacy celebration for our school.

Students will visit the Galvin Middle School Wednesday April 12th to enjoy the Visual and Performing Arts celebration. They will be bussed to and from the Greenwood School.

A reminder to grade 3 & 4 parents that students will begin MCAS ELA State Testing on Thursday 4/27 and continue Monday 5/1 & Tuesday 5/2. We ask families to make every effort to have students arrive at school on time during testing windows so that students may take the test with their classmates.

While visiting classrooms this week I had an opportunity to watch our second graders during a technology coding lesson. What thinkers and problem solvers they were as they “de-bugged” the program!
