From the Principal

"Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible — the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family."
— Virginia Satir

Dear Parents,
On Wednesday, April 27th the district will present an information session for parents on the emergency response protocols all of our schools have adopted titled A.L.I.CE.(Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate).  A.L.I.C.E. is a more sophisticated and enhanced approach to school lockdowns. The philosophy of A.L.I.C.E. is to use technology and information in a way that staff and students can make informed decisions. In a crisis, this approach recommends removing as many people as possible from the danger zone, and provides realistic training so that those involved in a crisis have a better chance of staying safe. It will be geared specifically for how we address this with elementary students. Please consider joining us at the Woodville School from 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Mark your calendars for our Spring Learning Fair Thursday June 2nd from6:15 – 7:30 p.m. We invite you and your children to join us to so that the children can teach you all that they have learned in mathematics this year!  Our goal is to make this evening not only a celebration ofwhat your child/children have accomplished during the school year, but also an informative evening for our families to learn more about the Common Core Mathematical Standards and what they mean for your child’s education. We will be highlighting the standards of mathematical practice and demonstrating through student work and videos how the standards are addressed throughout the K-4 math curriculum. We hope you can join us!

We continue to remind families that the statewide assessment PARCC will be administered to our third and fourth grade students on May 19, 20, 2324, & 25th.  The assessments will begin at 9:00 am and go throughout the morning at the two grade levels. We ask that students arrive at school on time and that no appointments, vacations be scheduled during these testing windows.  We have scheduled the administration of the assessments as late as possible during the testing window so that our students have exposure to as much of the ELA/Math curriculum prior to testing as possible. Therefore, our make-up window will not be as long as it has been in the past. Our experience has shown that allowing students to take these tests with their classmates and their teacher creates a more relaxed testing environment for the children versus taking make up tests with unfamiliar test administrators.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation with this request.

Have a great week!

Regards,
Deb Collura
