Dear Greenwood Families,
Happy Monday, and welcome back! I hope that the break from regular school routines was fun, restful, interesting, or any combination of the above! It sounds like a lot of people were able to travel and spend some time away - I’ve even heard from a couple of folks who said the weather was warmer in Massachusetts than at their travel destination (obviously that was a midweek comment). Even though it’s always nice to have some time off, everyone at Greenwood is looking forward to getting back into our routines of teaching and learning!
At-Home COVID Tests
This is a reminder for any family who opted into the WPS weekly at-home COVID testing program.
The second at-home test should be administered on Monday morning before your child comes to school on February 28th. The next round of test kits will be distributed later this week, and we will send home a School Messenger that day so that you can check your child’s backpack!
A negative test result does not need to be reported to the school. However, if your child receives a positive test result, please complete the positive test form and keep them home from school. This form will be shared with the school nurse: Positive Test Form
Please reach out to Mary Doherty, our Greenwood School Nurse, or me with any questions.
WPS Mask Update
At the meeting on Tuesday, February 15th, the Wakefield School Committee voted to extend the WPS Face Covering Policy until Wednesday, March 9th. This decision was made after hearing input from parents and families, teachers, and the Director of the Wakefield Board of Health. All WPS buildings and offices will continue to uphold this School Committee policy. Per current practice, we will continue to provide masks to students and/or adults who arrive at school without one. We appreciate your support and cooperation as we navigate this last stretch!
PE Update
Mr. Hennessey, our Physical Education, Health, and Wellness teacher, would like to update Greenwood families about what students have been working on during the middle part of the school year. Please check out the PE Newsletter for descriptions of PE units and some photos of students in action!

WMHS Fundraiser for the Black Student Union
On Thursday, March 17th, Fuddruckers in Reading will donate 20% of your total meal price to the Wakefield Memorial High School’s Black Student Union. The fundraiser goes from 3:00-6:00pm, and you must present the cashier with a copy of the flier. It’s an easy way to show your support and help the BSU raise money!!
Old or Unused Board Games?
Do you have some games kicking around that don’t get used anymore? Maybe they’re missing a few pieces? Our Reading Specialist, Kathy Holland, would love to take them off your hands! She is looking for games that have game boards that she can transform into literacy-based activities. Feel free to send her an email with any questions or to let her know you have something for her!
