From the Principal: 11/7/22

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday!  Let me start by stating the obvious - the school schedule this week is a little unusual.  That being said, there will still be lots of great things happening throughout Greenwood!  We’re excited to start conferences this Wednesday afternoon and welcome you into the building (or via Zoom) to talk about our favorite topic - kids!  The connection and communication between school and home is such an important part of the work we do, and we always appreciate your time and support.

No School - Tuesday November 8th & Friday, November 11th

On Tuesday, November 8th there will be no school for students due to elections being held at the Galvin.  WPS Staff will be involved in professional development on that day.  Friday, November 11th is a no school day in observance of Veterans Day - all WPS schools and offices will be closed on that day.

Early Release - Wednesday, November 9th

Our next early release day for students is on Wednesday, November 9th.  All students will be dismissed at 11:55am in order for teachers to hold conferences with families during the afternoon.  Please note: there will be a scheduled lunch block for students prior to dismissal.

4th Annual Pumpkin Collection

The Wakefield Environmental Sustainability Committee is once again providing an opportunity for post-Halloween pumpkin recycling!  On Wednesday, November 9th, there will be a tarp out back where pumpkins can be dropped off as families arrive at school.  Please see the linked flyer for more information.

Ms. Pam’s Lending Library

Last year, Greenwood School Psychologist Jenny Beardslee applied for and was awarded a Wakefield Educational Foundation grant to fund a lending library focused on the topics of grief and loss for families to access.  WEF’s Director of Public Relations, Elizabeth Russell, wrote this short article to be published in the Wakefield Daily Item and via WEF’s social media about the project.  Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or if you’d like to access any of the books.

PowerSchool Contacts/Information

While Greenwood families have been doing a pretty good job of getting contact information up to date so that everyone receives School Messenger emails, we’re finding that there is still information needing to be updated in some PowerSchool accounts.

If you have a parent portal account, Log into the portal. Click on Forms on the left side of the screen, then click on the: R3 Student Contacts Update Form and make sure the appropriate permissions are selected for each contact.  Here are screenshots on how to update this information.

If you do not yet have a parent portal account please contact Ms. Paiva to obtain your child's web access ID and Password.  You will not be able to access report card information online without an account.

Lunchroom Volunteers

Thank you to everyone who has given us some of your valuable time over the past few weeks!  Updated time slots are being added at the current link.

Do you have any free time between 12:00-1:15pm on school days?  Or 10:30-11:50am on early release days?  Looking for a way to help out at Greenwood?  We are finally bringing back lunchroom volunteer opportunities!  If you’d like to come in and help support students while they’re eating lunch, please see the linked Sign-Up Genius to select time slots over the next two weeks.  Single days, multiple days, one time slot, the whole lunch block…we welcome any and all helpers!

NOTE: You will need to have a CORI form completed before coming in for any lunch shifts - please contact Ms. Paiva about the process or to check if you have a current one on file.
