From the Principal: 1/3/23

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy New Year!  I hope that everyone had a happy and healthy winter break.  I’m looking forward to seeing many eager, excited eyes (and probably a few sleepy ones too) on Tuesday morning as we return to our learning journey.  While it’s always nice to be on a more relaxed schedule for a bit, it always feels good to get back into a routine and see all of the exciting things happening around Greenwood each day!

Greenwood All-School Meeting - Grade 4 Hosting

We are excited to be welcoming families back into Greenwood for All-School Meetings for the first time since March 2020!  Each grade level will be responsible for hosting an assembly to share about a positive attribute that we want our Greenwood community to embrace and embody.  Our 4th graders will lead us off on Monday, January 9th at 9:00am, so we would like to invite 4th grade parents/guardians to attend if you are able to do so.  (Seating will be up in the balcony.)

Winter Temperatures, Snow, and Outdoor Recess

As I’m writing this ahead of time, I’m seeing temperatures in the 50’s and even 60’s on the 10-day forecast, but we know it’s coming sooner or later…

Our goal here at Greenwood is to get the kids outside for recess as much as possible even when the temperatures drop.  Kids will be outdoors at long as the “feels like” temperature is above 20 degrees Fahrenheit.  When the fenced-in playground area is snow-covered, students are only allowed on the snow if they are wearing boots.  All this is to say, please make sure students come to school with the appropriate outerwear for enjoying outside time.

And if any of your winter gear has already gone missing...check the lost-and-found!

News From the Greenwood Library

Mrs. Bayer, our Greenwood Librarian, has a newsletter sharing the latest information about what your children have been up to during their library/media specialist times (lots of fun and exciting things, to be sure!)  Please take a moment to check it out!

Lunchroom Volunteers

Thank you to everyone who has given us some of your valuable time over the past few weeks!  Updated time slots are being added at the current link and now go through the end of January.

Do you have any free time between 12:00-1:15pm on school days?  Or 10:30-11:50am on early release days?  Looking for a way to help out at Greenwood?  We are finally bringing back lunchroom volunteer opportunities!  If you’d like to come in and help support students while they’re eating lunch, please see the linked Sign-Up Genius to select time slots over the next two weeks.  Single days, multiple days, one time slot, the whole lunch block…we welcome any and all helpers!

NOTE: You will need to have a CORI form completed before coming in for any lunch shifts - please contact Ms. Paiva about the process or to check if you have a current one on file

Greenwood School Social Media

We are on Facebook and Instagram!  Check us out - @wpsgreenwood on both Instagram and Facebook!

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.

Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning!  Let’s have a great week!
