The Wakefield Special Education Parent Advisory Council Welcomes a Panel of Experts

The Wakefield Special Education Parent Advisory Council is pleased to welcome a Panel of Experts Wednesday night, May 17 at 7 PM the Galvin Middle School, Project Room 117. 

This panel, comprised of an Advocate, an Attorney, a Neuropsychologist and the Wakefield Special Education Director, is a great opportunity to learn about each of their roles and their views on special education: a virtual look at special education and resources through their lenses.

Meet the Panel

Sue Terzakis—the Advocate

Sue is the Director and owner of Educational Advocacy Solutions and has over 15 years of experience advocating for children with special education needs in Massachusetts. She helps families of children who are struggling in school and not receiving appropriate services. Learn more.

Laura Gillis, Esq.—the Attorney

Laura E. Gillis is the principal attorney at Gillis Law, LLC. representing students with disabilities and their parents in educational matter.  Attorney Gillis provides IEP review and feedback, attends TEAM meetings, negotiates out of district placements and changes of placement, addresses discipline issues, and represents parents at all stages of the mediation and administrative due hearing process.  Learn more.

Kira Armstrong, Ph.D.—the Neuropsychologist

Kira Armstrong, PhD, ABPP-CN is a board certified pediatric neuropsychologist who completed her Ph.D. at the University of Victoria, British Columbia. She also completed an internship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Armstrong has been actively involved in both state and national neuropsychological associations, and co-wrote 2 books relating to neuropsychology.

Lyn O’Neil—the Special Education Director

Comes from a family of educators and has been in education for 23 years, has served in a multitude of positions from both special and general education teacher roles, department head of special education in a middle/high school setting to the Administrator of Special Education and Student Services for Wakefield Public Schools. Lyn has worked for Lawrence Public Schools, Georgetown Public Schools and Melrose Public Schools before coming to Wakefield.
